2nd XI Match Report – 2nd May 2015

Grantham won the toss and had no hesitation batting first on an absolute belter of a track. Ollie Clawson (19) and Martin Parmley got off to a solid start before losing Clawson on 65. Debutant Dave Richardson then joined Parmley as they added nearly 60 for the second wicket before the classy Martin Parmley was out for 80. Richardson and Danny Ashley added 25 a piece before the innings stuttered to a close for a below par 192, in the face of some tidy slow bowling from Haslam and Timby, the latter picking up 7 wickets. Danny Ashley (2 for 45) removed the dangerous Sergeant but Woodhall kept the pressure on with good partnerships and looked favourites to chase down Grantham’s total until the reintroduction of Rahul Kumar turned the tide in Grantham’s favour. His spell of 5 for 37, along with his part in the runout for the final wicket saw Grantham edge home by the small margin of 6 runs in what was a hard fought game played on an excellent wicket.
